Shampooing/ Detangling
Large tooth combs do NOT detangle hair.
We detangle hair with medium tooth combs, vent brushes, or Denman brushes to rid your hair of any knots. If knots are still present in the hair, it will not generate a polished final look.
The best time to detangle the hair is after the hair has been cleansed thoroughly and conditioner has been applied from the root to the ends of the hair.
Deep conditioning can be done at the salon once a month. However, deep treatments can also be done more frequently to speed up the process of recovery of damaged hair.
Oils are not moisturizers!
Oil and water do not mix. Therefore, oil will never hydrate dry hair. Oils are sealants and seal the cuticle of the hair. If excess oils are being used in the hair and aren’t being removed from the hair during the shampooing process, the oil will create a coat that won’t allow anything to penetrate the hair shaft.
Oils are best used on the scalp. The skin is alive so the oil will be absorbed by the skin and receive the nutrients from the oils at hand. Be mindful that all oils are not made the same. Every oil isn’t designed to be used on the scalp or in the hair.
Applying oils to the scalp, 2-3 nights a week is great for dry and itchy scalp.
Clarifying shampoos remove excess oils and build up in the hair.
Silk Press Maintenance
Wrapping the hair every night with a wig cap and silk scarf helps the longevity of the style. A separate wig cap can be used with two plastic caps for the shower. Try not showering with excess heat to avoid sweating out the press.
If you like body and volume, using 6-8 large flexi rods at night will help to maintain body. If the curls are too tight when you take them down, feel free to wrap the hair for a few minutes and take down the wrap before arriving at your destination.
If you aren’t comfortable sleeping with flexi rods, pin curls work perfectly. Covering the rods/curls with a hair net and bonnet. Remember to cover the hair with a plastic cap while in the shower.
If the hair is pressed, going out in the night or morning dew will frizz the hair. So, no walking the dogs or going to dinner outside with freshly pressed hair. Once the hair is trained to be hydrated and or pressed, the style is prone to lasting 2-3 weeks with the regimen listed above.
Flat twist or Wash and Go Maintenance
Hair can be put into a pineapple position (pull the hair forward towards the hairline) and place the hair net over the hair to minimize frizzing. Then, place the bonnet over the net to protect the hair overnight. Silk pillowcases aren’t enough. Remember, to cover the hair with a plastic cap while in the shower.
Relaxed hair maintenance
For short hair styles, a Velcro wrap for the hairline and nape and a hair net for the curls at top.
For long hair styles, wrapping the hair or if you like body and volume, using 6-8 large flexi rods at night will help to maintain body. If the curls are too tight when you take them down, feel free to wrap the hair for a few minutes and take down the wrap before arriving at your destination.
